Mijas Costa is the stretch of coastline that lies in between the boundaries of Fuengirola and Marbella.
Most of this stretch of land has been urbanised and includes the resorts of El Faro, El Chaparral, La Cala de Mijas, Riviera del Sol, Sitio de Calahonda and Cabapino.
Sitio de Calahonda is the largest urbanisation on this part of the costa and Calahonda beach is the largest beach in the Mijas municipality covering 4.5km of coastline.
There is some rocky coastline; hence the lighthouse but either side there are pleasant sandy beaches.
This is a popular spot for surfers.
The resort is supported by a few Chiringuitos (beach bars) and a number of bars and restaurants can be found either side of the main road at El Faro Playa.
It is mainly an urbanised residential area that is very popular with self-catering apartment/villa holidays.
